Our Beginning

Ate O’Clock has been part of York’s dining scene since the mid-2000s, but our modern story began in 2017 when three brothers took over the 40-cover restaurant. Drawing on their mixed cultural backgrounds and hospitality experience, they set out to create “the restaurant York was missing”: somewhere everyone could enjoy great food and drink in a beautiful, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Since then, continued reinvestment has grown the business to 120 covers and 50 employees, with a collection of characterful dining rooms, each with its own look and feel, a year-round courtyard and, in 2022, a lounge bar next door.

Our Vision

With step free access, fully accessible toilet facilities, baby change units, highchairs and menus and dishes crafted to suit a range of dietary requirements and restrictions, our vision has always been to create an environment and dining experience that everybody can enjoy.

We aim to provide guests with real choice. Separate menus for Gluten Free, Vegetarian & Vegan options ensure guests requiring these options feel considered, rather than just an ‘icon’ on a menu. This consideration continues to our Drinks menu, where a range of vegan, organic, gluten free and non-alcoholic options are available.

A part of the community

As an independent, family-run business, York and the local community are at the heart of what we do. From using local suppliers and produce in our kitchen to serving York Gin and Rudgate Beers in our bar, we’re proud to support the people and businesses around us.

We love working together with other local businesses, creating partnerships, special offers and experiences that encourage our guests to explore and enjoy more of what York has to offer.
